Blank Day is a term mainly used in the airline industry. The Definition of a blank day in a pilots award follows. If the term is used in your enterprise agreement or award it should be defined in that agreement.
Blank day (BL day) means a day, not being a day off, on which a pilot is not:
* rostered for duty; or
* obliged to be readily available for duty; or
* required to advise the Company of their whereabouts;
but is a day on which the pilot may be assigned duty in accordance with the open time procedures as set out in the Rostering Manual.
For part-time employees who are flight attendants or pursers, an EBA with QANTAS allows them to nominate blank days up to 30 hours per month when they will be available for duties.
