Not sure about your rights at work? - Ask Neale

question

If you have been a casual for a long period, can you be regarded as permanent as far as leave rights go?

GL

answer

Some cases have been decided by the Commission which make it 6 months as the employee has an expectation of continuous employment.

Long service leave can accumulate for separate periods with the one employer.

Teachers employed casually for 2.5 days a week for the school year are deemed permanent.

Other rulings have made it one month casual on a full time basis makes someone effectively permanent.
