Home Campaigns Working Students Union NetworkUnions and Students combine forces on campusWorking Students Union Network Established16 February 2004Trade unions and student organisations are combining forces this year to educate students about their rights at work.
Most University and Tafe Students work. University students work on average 14 hrs per week, and Tafe studies are usually taken part-time during full-time work. Students face vulnerable employment, often in casual work where conditions are limited and pay is poor. Students often work in industries where unionism rates are low, such as cafes, service industry, I.T, and retail. Employment conditions in these industries are often poor. This year student organisations and unions are combining forces to educate students about our rights at work and involve us in union movement campaigns. Information mateirals are being distributed at all University and TAFE Colleges, and clubs are being set up at UNSW, UTS, Sydney Uni and UWS Parramatta. To get involved in your club or for more information just email workingstudents@labor.org.au.
