PETITION

TO THE HONOURABLE PRESIDENT AND MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF NEW SOUTH WALES.

The Petition of certain citizens of New South Wales state that:

1. The Minister for Industrial Relations has introduced into Parliament a Bill to amend the Workers Compensation Act 1987.

2. This Bill, The Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Bill, 2001 has been introduced without proper and adequate consultation with trade unions and the Labor Council of NSW.

3. This Bill, if passed, would significantly reduce benefits and entitlements available to workers who are injured or fall ill because of their employment.

Your petitioners pray that the House will refer the Bill to the Workers Compensation and Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Council for their consideration and recommendations on improving the existing workers compensation scheme.
