This varies slightly from state to state. However, generally speaking your training contract can be terminated by mutual agreement between you and your employer during its life.
Where you complete your training towards your qualification and are assessed as being competent, you can also have your traineeship terminated by mutual agreement.
If there is any dispute about the termination of the contract, you can take this up with the state or territory training authority who may be able to resolve the issues.
You can also have your training contract terminated for misconduct such as failure to attend training classes over a period of time without good reason, or for serious misconduct such as theft.
Either way, you should check the different arrangements that apply in different states and territories.
Contact your union or call the ACTU Helpline on 1300 362 223. Alternately, contact your state or territory training authority.
