Impulse Workers Seek Public SupportDate: 23 May 2001
Sacked Impulse workers are taking to the streets to garner public support with the aim of overturning their dismissals. Australian Services Union Branch Secretary Julie Bignell said former Impulse workers were going public with petitions calling on Qantas management to honour their moral obligation in relation to Impulse jobs. "We've had an excellent response from the community who've really thrown their support behind these sacked workers," Ms Bignell said. "We're calling on the public to sign the petitions and to contact Qantas so they know these sackings aren't right," she said. Former Impulse employee Olivia Meiklejohn said she was heartened by the expressions of support she had received from the public. "We've been at the airport this morning where hundreds of people signed our petition calling on Qantas to do the right thing," Ms Meiklejohn said. "Qantas and Impulse said this deal would save our jobs at Impulse, but the reality is over 200 of us have been sacked," she said. Download the petition now at www.qld.asu.asn.au
