Impulse staff get sacked again!Date: 25 May 2001
Emotional Impulse workers will return to the domestic airport today to receive their formal dismissal notices. Australian Services Union acting Branch Secretary Mary-Anne O'Neill said the forty Impulse workers who were told they were out of a job on Tuesday were returning to the airport for a meeting where they would receive a formal notice of their sackings. "At this meeting union representatives will be calling on Impulse to provide four weeks redundancy payment to all sacked workers (on top of their minimum entitlement) as a fair and reasonable package," said Ms O'Neill. "Given the lucrative deal Impulse boss Gerry McGowan managed to get for himself, we think this it's only fair that some of this is shared with the sacked staff," she said. Former Impulse worker Olivia Meiklejohn said returning to their airport to be formally sacked would be an emotional experience for her and her colleagues. "Getting our formal dismissals today is the final nail in the Impulse coffin; so it will be a pretty distressing experience for us," Ms Meiklejohn said. more info on the Impulse sackings at www.qld.asu.asn.au
