Crackdown needed after fatalityDate: 16 June 2003
The CFMEU is calling for a Workcover crackdown on safety standards in the home unit sector of the building industry. The call comes after the death of a bricklayer late this morning. The worker was building apartments in North Bondi when a wall collapsed on him. CFMEU State Secretary Andrew Ferguson believes better regulation of suburban apartment projects is long over due. "From our area organiser's preliminary report it appears the job where the worker was killed did not even have perimeter fencing. This constitutes a clear risk not just to the workers on the site, but also the public. A crackdown in Sydney is overdue."
