Vale Brian MillerDate: 26 June 2003
CFMEU NSW Safety Co-ordinator Brian Miller died yesterday, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A legend in the building industry, Brian Miller was an official of the CFMEU for over 30 years A carpenter by trade, Brian played a leading role in all the Union's industrial campaigns over the last 30 years as well as organising volunteer building workers to assist in the rebuilding of Darwin after Cyclone Tracy and volunteer rebuilding efforts after the Nyngan flood and bushfires of 1993/4. Brian was also a long standing peace activist, being the motivator behind over 150 major construction projects in Sydney being voted "peace sites", including Darling Harbour, the QVB and the Entertainment Centre. Earlier this year nearly 500 people from all areas of the building industry packed a tribute dinner for Brian at South's Leagues Club. Current CFMEU State Secretary Andrew Ferguson today paid tribute to Brian Miller. ""The building industry is a dangerous place - but Brian's tireless work has made it considerably less dangerous than when he started. Its fair to say that Brian Millers work saved many lives." Funeral arrangements for Brian will be announced shortly.
