IT offshoring rally: 24 Feb MelbDate: 18 February 2004
There is growing concern in the community about the impact of 'offshore' outsourcing of IT jobs on Australia's national interest. Despite 'crocodile tears' from the Howard Government, Telstra seem determined to abandon Australian talent in favour of contracts with outsourcers in India, China and the Philippines. At least 150 IBM (Telstra contract) jobs have been lost already and Telstra plans to move 1500 more offshore this year. All up, Telstra plans to cut a total of nearly $1 billion from its IT budget. Rally We are planning a rally to express our concern at offshore job losses and the Howard Government's reluctance to do anything about it. Please come along.
