Psych-Testing Horror Stories

Date: 29 October 2004

Over 400 delegates at a safety conference today will hear how RailCorp is defying a NSW Government ban on psychometric testing.

NSW Labor Council Secretary John Robertson today said the policies of NSW Railcorp in psychometrically testing and standing down workers on the basis of test results was a clear breach of Government policy.

"Psychometric testing is a voodoo science being used by Railcorp as a command and control tool over its workforce

An independent panel of experts has found Railcorp's psychometric tests to be seriously flawed.

Labor Council has evidence that workers are actually being stood down on the basis of these secret, bogus evaluations."

Mr. Robertson will tell delegates that the psychometric testing fad is a money making exercise, rather than a serious attempt to address safety concerns in the workplace.

The 3rd annual NSW Labor Council Safety Delegates conference will also see newly elected Federal MP for Kingsford Smith Peter Garrett present safety achievement awards to over 50 workplace safety delegates from police officers to factory workers, for their work in making workplaces across NSW safer.

The conference will also hear from NSW Industrial Relations Minister John Della-Bosca about proposed new work death laws and from experts on bullying and fatigue.

Media are welcome to attend the third annual UnionSafe NSW Safety Delegates Conference, at Parramatta's Riverside Theatre, Church Street Parramatta from 8-30am-1pm today.
