Qld's biggest Casino shuts downDate: 21 June 2001
QUEENSLAND'S BIGGEST CASINO SHUTS DOWN FRIDAY NIGHT Casino won't make a deal with the dealers Casino gaming tables staff will stop work on Friday night (June 22) at Jupiters Casino, the biggest and most profitable casino in Queensland. " Our members have voted to walk-out for 24 hours from 8pm Friday," Irene Monro, LHMU Casino Union Queensland Assistant Secretary, said. " They are angry, and they are frustrated that after more than six months of talking the company is just not prepared to make a deal with the dealers who are 99 per cent unionised. " Our members want to apologise to the people of the Gold Coast who enjoy a good Friday night's outing at Jupiters. " I am sure they would agree that the people behind the gaming tables should be treated with respect," Irene Monro said. " The 530 tables gaming casino staff - members of the LHMU Casino Union - want the company to complete enterprise bargaining talks, so that both sides feel they have won from the deal. " We are the only Casino in Australia not to have an enterprise bargaining agreement. " The people who live and work on the Gold Coast deserve to be treated the same as all other Casino workers in our country," Irene Monro said. This is the third time LHMU Casino Union members have tried to get their employer to sign an enterprise agreement. Conrad Jupiters is the most successful Australian casino operated by this multi-national American casino chain, reporting impressive increased operating revenues over the past financial year. The LHMU proudly represents more than 150,000 hard working women and men throughout Australia. For further info: Irene Monro 0419 767 786 or Katrina McGill 0418 761 057
