Casino workers surround workplaceDate: 22 June 2001
MEDIA ALERT Time:11am CASINO WORKERS TO SURROUND WORKPLACE Hundreds of LHMU members will at 11 am tomorrow ( June 23) surround the Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast in a massive human chain to protest the fact that their employer refuses to negotiate an enterprise agreement . Jupiter Casino gaming staff have gone on a 24 hour strike as part of an on-going campaign to win better pay and conditions for the unionised workforce. Jupiters is one of the most profitable Casinos in Australia . The Jupiter Casino gaming staff are among the lowest paid casino workers in Australia. " In 15 years dealers have not got a pay increase from the company outside of the Living Wage and Safety Net increase," Irene Monro, LHMU Casino Union Queensland Assistant Secretary, said today.
