Ultimatum on Olympic jobs shutdownDate: 06 April 2000
The persistent rumours that mobile cranes and the deliveries of materials to construction sites would be banned during the staging of the Olympics have forced the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) to issue an ultimatum to the NSW Government to clarify the situation or face massive industrial actions including on Olympic projects. A mass meeting of union delegates from all over Sydney will meet at 10.30am today (Thursday) to institute bans on all Olympic jobs if the NSW Labor Council and affiliated building unions do not get guarantees building workers will not be unfairly victimised in September.
