Casino returns to bargaining tableDate: 26 June 2001
Jupiters Casino have agreed to come back to the bargaining table with their 500 gaming staff workers in an attempt to avoid any further industrial disruption - following the weekend long strike and lockout. " The Casino will meet with the union delegates and officials tomorrow," Irene Monro, LHMU Casino Union Queensland Assistant Secretary, said today. " The company has confirmed to our delegates that they are only interested in a collective agreement with their workers - they will not promote individual employment agreements. " Our delegates believe this is an important statement from their employer. " The union team working at the Casino are not interested in a stand-off. " The elected delegates want to represent their members interests in getting the best deal for all union members. " The delegates and members called the strike because the Casino was refusing to budge, effectively creating a stand-off with the workforce. " This was a log-jam created by the Casino bosses. " We are happy that the weekend dispute now seems to nudged the company into further talks. " We hope that these talks will actually bring an end to this long-running dispute." The LHMU proudly represents more than 150,000 hard working women and men throughout Australia. For further info: Irene Monro 0419 767 786 or Katrina McGill 0418 761 057
