150,000 Protest IR Changes in NSWDate: 15 November 2005
More than 150,000 NSW workers have attended today's National Day of Community Protest against the Federal Government's Industrial Relations changes. Workers attended rallies at more than 263 venues across state in what was the largest gathering of its type ever held. Major attendances were recorded in:
• More than 40,000 in the Sydney CBD (Martin Place, Belmore Park) Unions NSW Secretary John Robertson said: "This was a huge response to an issue that is causing enormous concern across the workforce." Mr Robertson called on employers to respect the rights of workers to take this action and not to fine them, as some have threatened to do. "This is just the beginning of what will be a long term campaign to protect the future of workers' rights in Australia."
