Grants for construction workersDate: 07 April 2000
Workers in the construction industry will be able to receive up to $5000 towards the costs of educational activities, under a new program launched today by the Australian Construction Industry Redundancy Trust Education Foundation. The $5000 one-off grants will be awarded to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the construction industry and/or performed particularly well on a construction related educational program. "As the title of 'Excellence Awards' suggests, the ACIRT Foundation is looking for workers who are top performers," said ACIRT Chair Trevor Zeltner. "The grants may be used for study within Australia or abroad. They may go towards paying course fees, the costs of study materials or travel and living costs," Mr Zeltner said. Applicants must be current or recent members of ACIRT, or employed by a participating employer who is contributing to ACIRT for other members, or nominated by an ACIRT sponsor. The closing date for applications is June 30 and a number of awards will be made. ACIRT manages the construction industry's redundancy scheme across Australia. The Trust is jointly sponsored by construction trade unions and employer associations. Application forms for the ACIRT Education Foundation's Excellence Awards are available from the offices of the ACIRT sponsors: Master Builders Association (NSW), The Australian Industry Group, The Civil Contractors Federation, The Master Plumbers and Mechanical Contractors Association (NSW), CFMEU Construction & General Division, CEPU Plumbing Division, AMWU, AWU, ACTU.
