Greyhound drives bad bargainDate: 17 July 2001
The Australian Services Union has slammed Greyhound McCafferty's for attempting to force through an employment agreement that will leave many staff $3,000 a year worse off. ASU Branch Secretary Julie Bignell said Greyhound McCafferty's were attempting to force through a "shoddy" agreement that many staff had already rejected, and said it would leave some employees over $3,000 a year worse off (when compared with the relevant Award). "Despite promising to put together a fair agreement in consultation with ASU members, Greyhound McCafferty's have delivered a shoddy document that leaves our members worse off," Ms Bignell said. "Three out of six business sections in Greyhound McCafferty's voted against the Agreement, but management are still trying to force it upon their workforce," she said. "Staff in the call centre, the terminal, and finance and administration all voted against the agreement, but now management are trying to force it upon them," she said. Ms Bignell said ASU representatives would attempt to intervene before the Industrial Relations Commission tomorrow (Wednesday) to prevent the finalisation of the agreement. "We will do our utmost to prevent the certification of this Agreement as it stands because it disadvantages many Greyhound McCafferty's staff - in some cases to the tune of $3,000 per year," Ms Bignell said.
