Tristar Worker Sacked 4 Speaking OutDate: 01 April 2007
Marty Peek, a worker at Tristar for 35 years, was sacked on Friday because Tristar bosses didn't like him telling media the truth about the conditions at the company. The Australian Worker' Union has applied to the Federal Court for an application for relief from unlawful termination for Mr Peek. The hearing begins on Monday at 2.15pm. There has been no work at the Tristar's car parts manufacturing factory in Marrickville for months, but the company has kept on its thirty remaining workers because it doesn't want the expense of making them redundant. The Australian Workers' Union says Tristar wants to use John Howard's unfair Workchoices to get rid of the workers cheaply. The company's treatment of long-term employees is being investigated at State and Federal levels. The sacking of Marty Peek is yet another example of Tristar's attitude towards its workers, who have given years of loyal service only to be treated as second-class citizens. WHO: Australian Workers' Union NSW State Secretary Russ Collison
