Bank Workers’ Draw BloodDate: 16 August 2001
Finance Sector Union members from ANZ, the National Australia Bank and Westpac on the Central Coast will participate in a stop work meeting on Friday, August 17 in Gosford. Immediately following the stop work meeting the community will be invited to join FSU members in an official world record attempt to form the worlds longest bank queue - only this time it will be for a good cause - the blood bank. "Following successful action in Newcastle, Parramatta, Penrith and around the country, our campaign now moves to the NSW Central Coast", said FSU NSW/ACT Branch Secretary Geoff Derrick. Some 33 branches of ANZ, the National and Westpac on the Central Coast will be affected by the stoppage. "Union members will add their voices to the chorus of discontent at these Banks' failure to deliver decent service standards for customers and fair working conditions for staff," he said. Customers in other areas hit by industrial action have shown overwhelming support for the FSU's campaign. "Customers understand that staff want to serve them better - but that can only be achieved by improving the currently intolerable conditions staff work under," said Mr Derrick. "Together, customers and staff can send a strong message to the banks on this issue." "FSU members on the Coast want to get together with the community to send that message and that's why we're inviting the general public to join our queue at the blood bank on Friday," said Mr Derrick. WHAT: 9AM STOP WORK MEETING AND 10.30 AM BLOOD BANK QUEUE GOSFORD GOLF CLUB, THEN GOSFORD HOSPITAL (NEARBY) RACECOURSE RD, GOSFORD WHEN: FRIDAY AUGUST 17 2001.
