Let's get Ansett back in the airDate: 20 September 2001
Tomorrow's rallies at Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns airports highlight the commitment of Ansett workers, their families, unions and the community to get the Airline back into the air. Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) General Secretary Grace Grace said it was important to let the Howard government know that the community is behind Ansett workers and their families. "It is important to remember that workers and their families would not be in this situation if the government had acted three months ago when it was told Ansett was failing," Ms Grace said. "Unions and the community will work with Ansett workers to ensure they are back flying or for 100% of their entitlements are met, nothing else is good enough," she said. "We are encouraging community groups and the general public to attend the rally in support of Ansett workers and their families," Ms Grace said. "Despite claims from the federal government, these rallies will not stop or delay any flights in Australia," she said. Speakers at the rally in Brisbane will be General Secretary Grace Grace, ASU - Clerical Secretary Julie Bignell, TWU Secretary Hughie Williams, AMWU Ass. Secretary Andrew Dettmer, LHMU Secretary Ron Monaghan along with Ansett workers including Dennis Bell.
