Thousands attend Ansett BBQDate: 05 October 2001
Thousands of Ansett workers, their family and supporters turned out in Melbourne's Treasury Gardens today for the unions' family BBQ day. Speakers including the ACTU's Greg Combet and Sharan Burrow, Federal ALP member Simon Crean and Victorian Premier Steve Bracks spoke to the crowd, while a line up of bands and performers - lead by MC Linda Gibson - kept the entertainment coming. The MUA and CFMEU provided a BBQ lunch for the crowd in a display of solidarity appreciated by all. Highlight of the afternoon was Keith Armytage singing the unofficial Ansett campaign song Gone Under (Save Ansett). You can watch a Quicktime video of Keith performing "Gone Under" live at today's BBQ by clicking here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ansettworkers/files/goneunderlive.mov
