Ansett delgates receiving the award.

The campaign to keep Ansett flying has been presented with a Special Recognition Award in the ACTU's Union Awards.

The Awards Presentation was held at Melbourne's Regent Plaza on 27 November. Other winners include the ASU's Melissa Webster for Organiser of the Year; the SA TLC winning the Jennie George Award for the Anna Stewart Memorial Program; the NTEU and AEU for Best Communications Strategy; CPSU's Leonie Saunders (AAPT) Delegate of the Year; LHMU WA for Best Workplace Campaign and AMIEU's Graham Bird for Best Media Quote.

The Awards night finale was the presentation of a Special Recognition Award to the "Keep Ansett Flying" campaign, with the ACTU and Ansett Administrators praising the efforts of all the Ansett union delegates and workers. Watch video of the award presentation at the ASU's online Movie Theatre.

Steve Smith, ASU Delegate at Melbourne Airport, spoke on behalf of the union delegates in saying that he and the others would "work tirelessly to ensure that Ansett is the premier airline in Australia". The supreme efforts of these workplace leaders in extraordinarily difficult times was - as it should be - publically commended and acclaimed by unionists and the general public alike.
