MEU Win at Warringah CouncilDate: 21 December 2001
When 25 workers at Warringah Council were faced with redundancy just days before Christmas, the MEU called for urgent meetings which have resulted in all redundacies being held off until late February when discussions can take place with the new General Manager. This is a signifcant victory for the members who faced a very bleak Christmas with re-employment opportunites virtually non-existent in the January Christmas. It also allows the MEU time for meaningful discussions on alternative options to job loss and a cutback of Council service. The MEU has prepared an atlernative plan for Council to adopt in the light of it's recent budget deficit and the Union will be holding discussions with the new General Manager who commences in late February. Organiser Wayne Moody has spken to members who were relieved to know that their jobs were safe for now.
