Ambulance Service Workbans PlannedDate: 01 February 2002
Members of the Australian Services Union will commence work bans next week unless the NSW Ambulance Service agrees to pay a wage increase that was scheduled for 1 January 2002. ASU Representatives voted unanimously to commence the work bans from 7am Wednesday 6 February unless the NSW Ambulance Service advises the Union by noon Tuesday that they agree to pay a 3% wage increase. According to the ASU, members have taken this step following months of frustration and an unjustified and discriminatory delay in paying the wage increase. "Our members are aware that other employees of the NSW Ambulance Service and the Health Department have received this increase," said ASU Secretary Michael Want. "We raised this issue back in October 2001 and have not been made aware of any conditions applying to the wage increase." Mr Want said that the Health Department had demanded conditions to be associated with the increase however the Ambulance Service failed to notify the ASU. "This is outrageous action," said Mr Want. "And our members should not be disadvantaged." "We have given the Ambulance Service long enough to pay this increase and now they have until next Tuesday - if there is no answer by then workbans will be implemented," said Mr Want.
