CFMEU interim ban on Cooks CoveDate: 12 March 2002
The NSW Committee of Management of the CFMEU (Construction Division) has today resolved to place an interim green ban on development of parkland in Rockdale as part of the proposed Cooks Cove Project. CFMEU State President Peter McClelland believes the interim ban is necessary to ensure a full public debate on the merits or otherwise of the project. "After receiving representations from Union members living in Rockdale our supreme decision making body has made a strong statement in support of more public consultation and a closer examination of what is proposed. The CFMEU has a strong history of support for local communities under threat from development. Glebe, the Rocks and other parts of Sydney are still standing today thanks to the commitment of ordinary building workers to their community. We remain to be convinced of the merits of this project, which threatens important local passive recreation areas."
