Building workers big donationDate: 20 March 2002
CFMEU members working on the St Vincent's hospital site in Darlinghurst will hand over a cheque tomorrow for nearly $18,000 to the hospital. The money has been raised by the workers themselves and will go to St Vincent's Public Hospital to buy a cooling blanket for the intensive care ward. The donation brings the amount raised by building workers for NSW hospitals to over $250,000 in the last twelve months. CFMEU Organiser Phil Smith paid tribute to the generosity of building workers. "This donation tomorrow is just the latest episode in a long history of workers contributing financially to the community. An entire ward of the Children's Hospital at Westmead is named after former CFMEU leader Pat Clancy, in recognition of this tradition. All CFMEU members are proud to be able to support our public institutions." Media are welcome at the cheque presentation ceremony tomorrow, which commences at 9AM on site at St Vincent's.
