Giant rat to confront Abbott todayDate: 22 March 2002
Hundreds of building workers will strike and rally on The Corso at Manly this morning to protest against local MP Tony Abbott's lack of interest in his constituents welfare. Two family run businesses in Manly are about to go under because of a corporate scam which has seen them not receive payment from a contractor for building work done on St Luke's Grammar School in Brookvale. Thirty local constituents of Mr Abbott are about to lose their jobs. These workers held a family BBQ outside St Luke's school yesterday and leafleted local parents alerting them to the situation. When these men sought a meeting with their local MP to ask for his help, they were told Mr Abbott was "too busy" to see them and "might be available late next month." A 25 foot high rat will be peering into Tony Abbotts 2nd story office window this morning, signposting in a very visible way that Mr Abbott needs to help the real victims of shonky practices in the building industry- his local constituents.
