North Coast DOCS out for 24 hoursDate: 14 May 2002
Public Service Association members from the Northern Area of DOCS, which extends from Taree to the Queensland border and West to Narrabri, today voted to strike for 24 hours from midnight tonight This action follows months of inaction by senior management to address serious staffing issues that has led to a deepening crisis within the Department. Maurie O'Sullivan, General Secretary, said, "This action by members is in protest to senior management's constant blame shifting and continual refusal to accept responsibility for the well documented and undeniable crisis." "Whenever anything goes wrong senior management will blame the caseworkers and more recently blamed victims' relatives and even Childrens Court Magistrates". "It should be highlighted that the action of members is not about more money but instead to highlight the growing dissatisfaction and frustration being experienced in the field as a result of inadequate staffing". Mr O'Sullivan added, "Our members have become sick and tired of being sick and tired and want immediate action to address the staffing crisis". For further information please contact:
