Health campaign intensifiesDate: 24 June 2002
Queensland Health workers will begin their third week of rolling stoppages in their campaign for a replacement enterprise bargaining agreement. Queensland Council of Unions General Secretary Grace Grace said industrial action is escalating. "Although the Queensland government has pressured workers to finalise an agreement by June 30, government negotiators have presented a "take it or leave it" offer to health workers," she said. "It is difficult to finalise an agreement when the other party won't negotiate in good faith," she said. "10 unions representing over 30,000 workers are pursuing their claims," she said. "Even if the government manages to reach a settlement with the Queensland Nurses Union, almost 70% of the workforce will continue industrial action until their issues are addressed," Ms Grace said. Health worker's rolling stoppages will go regional to Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Rockhampton and the Gold Coast hospitals next week.
