QHealth EBA expiry one month old

Date: 28 June 2002

Queensland Health agreement expiry date is now one month old due to Queensland government delays.

On Monday, (July 1) it will be one month since the Queensland Health agreement expired due to government delays in negotiations.

Queensland Council of Unions General Secretary said it was very disappointing that a month had passed with no breakthrough in negotiations for a replacement agreement for Queensland Health workers.

"The Queensland government has pressured workers to make an agreement before 1 July 2002 otherwise the operative date for back pay would be at risk," Ms Grace said.

"The 2000 Queensland Health EBA included a commitment for a pay rise on May 31. The Government is now stating that it will only honour the promised operative date if a replacement agreement is concluded by 30 June,"

"An all day negotiation was held on 27 June and it is clear there will be no agreement by 30 June," she said.

"The meeting was attended by Queensland Health management but no Government negotiators attended," Ms Grace said.

"10 unions representing over 30,000 workers are holding rolling stoppages and have imposed over 200 bans and limitations," she said.

"Even if the government manages to reach a settlement with the Queensland Nurses Union, over 30,000 health workers will continue industrial action until their issues are addressed," Ms Grace said.

Stop work meetings will continue from 1 July 2002 in regional areas across Queensland.
