Public sector review an ambushDate: 10 July 2002
The Queensland Council of Unions with public sector unions have determined not to co-operate with the Queensland government's public sector bargaining review. QCU General Secretary Grace Grace has labelled the review an ambush at a meeting of public sector unions yesterday afternoon. "The Queensland government has set up the review without consultation with the QCU or public sector unions," Ms Grace said. "Yesterday's meeting has passed resolutions condemning the Queensland government's approach to public sector bargaining and the setting up of a public sector bargaining review without consultation," she said. The resolution also states that the public sector unions will not cooperate because: - The QCU and Public Sector Unions have not been consulted over a possible review. - The Terms of Reference of any review are not agreed Terms of Reference. - In any event the Government's model would introduce a dual system. "QCU Unions will vigorously campaign against any unilaterally established Public Sector Bargaining Review," she said. "Further, this appears to be a panic reaction from the Government resulting from the incompetence of the Government in their negotiations with nurses and other public sector unions," Ms Grace said.
