NT Child Protection WinDate: 31 July 2002
The Community and Public Sector Union has welcomed the Northern Territory's Health Minister, Jane Aagaard's announcement of an increase of $500 000 per annum to Family and Children Services. The increase will be used to fund eight more positions. The increase comes as a direct result of an ongoing campaign mounted by CPSU members, calling for an immediate injection of more resources and staff. CPSU FACS members across the NT this week wore red ribbons in a show of solidarity for their unions' call for more resources. 'This is not only a significant increase in resources but a significant recognition of the dedicated work our members are doing and the importance of child protection and family support work in the Territory,' said Kilty O'Gorman, Community and Public Sector Industrial Organiser. 'We look forward to continuing to work with the government to improve the working conditions of our members in FACS across the NT,' said Danny Coombes, Community and Public Sector Industrial Organiser.
