RTA fined $90,000 for gas explosionDate: 23 August 2002
A successful prosecution by the Public Service Association of the Roads & Traffic Authority today ended with a $90,000 fine. The NSW Industrial Relations Commission fined the RTA for breaches of the Occupational Health & Safety Act. The charge related to a Liquid Petroleum Gas explosion and injuries to a PSA member. The member, a Broken Hill man, suffered burns to his face, arms and upper body, and spent a week in hospital. The prosecution was conducted by the PSA. The RTA pleaded guilty. The decision on penalty was made today - the RTA was fined $90,000.
