Qld health workers secure agreementDate: 27 August 2002
Today Queensland health unions representing over 30,000 health workers have secured an agreement with the Queensland government. Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) General Secretary Grace Grace said health workers will receive 3.8 per cent or $25 per week increase each year for the next three years commencing 1st September 2002. "Health unions have agreed to the government's offer subject to the final wording of the agreement," Ms Grace said. "Health unions expect the agreement, once finalised will go to ballot around mid-September," she said. "Health unions firmly believe that the above outcome was the best the result they could achieve from the government following a three month intensive industrial campaign and arduous negotiations with the Queensland government," she said. "Through the combined unions campaigning and industrial action Queensland health workers have secured this outcome," she said. "Strike action planned for Thursday, 29 August has also been cancelled following today's outcome," she said. The agreement will be backdated to 1st June 2002 resulting in a whole of life agreement increase of 3.5 per cent per year plus additional benefits contained in the agreement.
