NSWNA Conference Examines CrisisDate: 18 September 2002
A major nursing conference, being held in Sydney today will investigate and discuss the response of health industry stakeholders to the serious nurse shortage currently confronting NSW, the rest of Australia and the world. The New South Wales Nurses Association's (NSWNA) annual professional issues conference - HIGH STAKES! Nursing Work: Whose Agenda? - is being held today at the Carlton Crest Hotel Sydney. The conference follows this week's release of a major Federal Government report that confirms Australia is facing a nursing workforce crisis, which threatens to undermine the nation's capacity to delivery quality health care services. With all the evidence now proving just how high the stakes have become for Australia and its health care system, in terms of the nurse shortage, the conference will hear from senior representatives of major stakeholders in the nursing and health care debate. Keynote speaker is Karen Jennings, Head of Nursing at the United Kingdom's major nurses union, UNISON. Ms Jennings is an international expert on the impact of pay and conditions on the nursing workforce, the role of nursing policy in workplace issues and the required standards for nursing education and practice. Theme - HIGH STAKES! Nursing Work: Whose Agenda? Date: Wednesday, 18 September 2002
