PSA Annual Conference this weekDate: 23 May 2000
The Public Service Association's Annual Conference will take place on 25th and 26th May, 2000. Conference commences two days after the Government brings down its Budget. This should ensure some lively discussion. There are some splendid guest speakers at the PSA Conference. Shortly after 9 am on Thursday morning, Magistrate Mr Max Taylor will be speaking on an issue that he has before today brought to public notice. Mr Taylor is passionate in his desire to have an equitable distribution of wealth across NSW and indeed, across Australia. It is expected that he shall announce plans to form a Committee to take up cudgels on behalf of the disadvantaged people of the State. Around midday the Commissioner for Community Services, Mr Robert Fitzgerald, will be speaking to the Conference. Mr Fitzgerald is noted for his humanity and concern for people of all walks of life. In a previous life he was President of ACOSS and has brought a wealth of knowledge and understanding to his present position. He was recently a member of the Productivity Commission which brought down a tremendously well-researched report on gambling. Since taking up the position of a Community Services Commissioner he has shown himself to be a man of fortitude and strength. On Friday, at approximately 12.00 pm, the speaker will be a man who has been a colourful identity for nearly all of his public life. Indeed, he has not had much of a private life. A combination of neckties and wit and humanity have made Al Grassby a most interesting and informative speaker and we are delighted to host him on Friday. All branches of the media are invited to attend the speaker sessions. The venue is the Masonic Centre, cnr of Goulburn and Castlereagh Streets.
