Call an ambulance!Date: 23 May 2000
The Finance Sector Union is sending its Bank Rescue Vehicle to the Southern Highlands this week as part of its National "SOS Tour", aimed at "Saving Our Staff" and "Saving Our Service" in the banking sector. "With almost three more bank branches now closing somewhere in Australia every week, it was time to call an ambulance and so we have!" Geoff Derrick of the Finance Sector Union said. This coming Wednesday and Thursday the FSU Rescue Service will visit Goulburn and the Southern Highlands, urging locals to sign a petition calling on the Federal Government to introduce a social charter to make all banks take more responsibility for their customers and staff. "Since heading off on March 30, the refurbished ambulance has travelled to northern, southern and central western NSW, as well as Victoria and Tasmania. The response to the petition from bank employees and customers has been overwhelming, they're tired of bank greed and they want it to stop", Geoff Derrick said.
