Huge jobs win at DOCS

Date: 18 December 2002

The Government today announced major increases to staff at the Department of Community Services.

The additional staff are:

• 875 new case workers
• 125 new administrative staff in CSCs
• 350 (approx total for both) new legal officers and psychologists (includes bringing in-house work that is currently contracted out)
• additional staff at head office to add to the strategic direction of the department, e.g. in training.

These positions are in addition to the 130 positions we won a few months ago.

There will be increased funding in child placements in the non-government area, particularly for foster carers.

In all, the Government will spend an extra $1.1 billion over 5 years.

The PSA staff, delegates and DOCS members have campaigned long and hard to get this result
