Wendy Caird team wins CPSU ElectionsDate: 29 May 2000
CPSU members have overwhelmingly endorsed their current national leadership in today's union election results. The current national secretary, Wendy Caird received 73% of the vote, with all other members of her team elected with high margins. These margins are the highest ever recorded in CPSU elections. "We're delighted with this strong endorsement by our members" Ms Caird said. "The CPSU has been under attack by the government and we have not only survived, we're making optimistic plans for the future. Our members have responded with enthusiasm to our innovative plan for the union, called cpsu@work. This includes a strategy for growth, and a new membership service centre which provides high quality support and advice to members. "We are campaigning to protect our members' conditions and are winning union agreements for the vast majority of workers in our sector. We are a union which is confident about the future and we are expanding into new areas of membership," Ms Caird said. "With this level of support from members, we'll continue to be a force to be reckoned with". The CPSU covers workers in the Australian Public Service, Government Authorities, and the telecommunications, aviation and broadcasting sectors.
