Bombing To Trigger 5pm VigilDate: 18 March 2003
The Labor Council of NSW has called on workers to leave their jobs at 5pm the day the bombing of Iraq begins and converge on Sydney's Town Hall for a Peace Vigil. Labor Council secretary John Robertson said the Howard Government's undemocratic support for the attacks on Iraq was against the interests of Australian workers and their families. "Working people and their families have an important role to play in placing public pressure on the Howard Government over their breach of international obligations. "The Labor Council and their affiliates will be encouraging union members to walk off the job at 5pm and join the vigil on the day that hostilities begin. "The Labor Council is also supporting a major rally planned for this Sunday, being organised by the Walk Against the War Coalition. "We will be placing advertisements in major daily newspapers to keep members informed of how they can work for peace."
