Call For Liberals To Dump CookDate: 19 March 2003
The union covering Australia Post employees, the CEPU, has written to NSW Liberal Leader John Brogden to ask him to dis-endorse Quentin Cook as the Liberal candidate for the state electorate of Blue Mountains. Quentin Cook is an Australia Post employee and has behaved in an appalling way towards his fellow Australia Post employees culminating in the NSW Police securing an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against Mr. Cook. The NSW state secretary of the CEPU, Mr Jim Metcher said that "It is entirely inappropriate that a person of Mr. Cook's character should represent a major political party for public office." Mr Metcher went on to point out "that the AVO requires Mr. Cook not to 'intimidate the protected person' or anyone from their family and not to 'assault, molest, harass, or threaten' the person protected by the AVO." "The AVO against Mr. Cook is current and were he to be elected to Parliament on Saturday, we would be faced with the untenable position of having a newly elected Member of Parliament with a huge cloud hanging over his character," Mr Metcher added. In his letter Mr. Metcher asks Mr. Brogden to "dis-endorse" Mr. Cook immediately.
