Telstra Cuts Mean More ContractorsDate: 09 March 2000
Telstra was rapidly becoming an employer without any employees, the Community and Public Sector Union said today. Responding to the announcement that Telstra plans to shed a further 10,000 jobs, CPSU spokesman Ian Jones said the cuts would inevitably lead to more casual workers. "There are already more than 10,000 contract and temporary staff within the organisation and that number is going up," Jones said. "If the plan to cut staff numbers leads to more outsourcing to AWA call centres, then we'll be resisting it," he said. "We are very concerned that they won't be able to maintain service levels if they reduce their number."
