MEDIA ALERT
LIVING WAGE MEDIA CONFERENCES AROUND AUSTRALIA

The ACTU's Living Wage Case is very important to workers in the hospitality industry, cleaners, security officers, nursing care assistants and childcare workers, all industries traditionally represented by the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union.

After the ACTU releases details of the Living Wage Case in Melbourne at 11.30am, with the support of LHMU cleaners, LHMU branches will also hold media conferences tomorrow ( November 1) in the following cities:

In Perth:

David Hanks, a Nursing Assistant working for Craigcare Aged Care Group will speak at a media conference hosted by WA LHMU Assistant Secretary, Sharryn Jackson, at 10am (Perth time) at 61 Thomas St Subiaco. Tel: 08 9388 5400.

In Brisbane:

The Queensland Branch Assistant Secretary, Chris Barrett, will host a media conference with Bill Grey a storeman from Brisbane Airport at 12.30pm ( Brisbane time) in the Queensland Branch office, 74 Astor Terrace, Spring Hill. Tel: 07 3831 3355 or ring mob: 0407 144 215 and ask for LHMU organiser Col Struthers.

In Darwin:

Sandra Leutwiler, who works for the Carpentaria Disability Service and Barbara Mills, who works as an alcohol rehab counsellor for FORWAARD an ATSI organisation will be available at a media conference hosted by NT Branch Secretary, Stan Liaros, at 11.30am (Darwin time) at the NT LHMU office, 38 Woods St, Darwin tel: 08 8981 5611.

In Sydney:

Zenny Aruta, a room attendant/house cleaner, who works at the Millenium Hotel will join Annie Owens, NSW LHMU Secretary at a media conference in the LHMU office.1.30pm ( Sydney time) 9th floor 187 Thomas St, Haymarket.

In Canberra:

ACT Assistant Secretary, Lyndall Ryan,(tel: 02 6273 1238/0411 643 982) will host a media conference at 2.30pm (Canberra time) at the Alkira Child Care Centre, Tillyard Drive, Tillyard Centre, Charnwood. All the LHMU members work at this child care centre will be available to talk as a group about the importance of the Living Wage Case to them.

In Adelaide:

Julie Takacs, a carer at the Lima Nursing Home, and Michael Gardiner, a gardener at the Southern Cross Nursing Home, will join LHMU Branch Secretary Mark Butler in the SA LHMU office at a media conference at 1pm (Adelaide time). The SA office is at 101 Henley Beach Rd, Mile End. Tel: 08 8352 3511.
