All I WANT FOR XMAS IS MY ABC

Date: 19 December 2000

ABC Staffers at Central station

ABC Staffers at Central station

The campaign to save the ABC from cuts imposed by the "mini-mogul" regime of MD Johnathon Shier went public this morning when ABC staff and MEAA members hit the streets of Sydney to spread the word about the crisis facing our national broadcaster

High profile presenters Quentin Dempster and John Cleary braved peak hour at Sydney's Central railway handing out leaflets and brandishing petitions amongst the early morning commuter rush in an attempt to highlight their concerns at rapid downsizing in departments such as science, news and current affairs. Thousands of How to Save your ABC flyers will also be distributed in busy places like Martin Place and Town Hall during the day.

Bouyed by the positive public response, MEAA and the CPSU have decided to continue their joint campaign into the New Year.
