| Overview: |
: DUSA operates on all Deakin University campuses through a structure of elected campus committees, supported by staff. Each campus committee is led by an elected Vice President. A Lead Support Officer on each campus is the key staff role in support of the Campus Vice President, and is supported in turn by one or more Support Officers (this position).
DUSA is committed to the principle of membership empowerment as our core strategy. Membership empowerment is providing control of activities and organisational functions directly to members through elections and member development programs. DUSAs organisational structure increasingly supports membership empowerment, and its features include:
oCampus Committees, with responsibility for creating and delivering all member activities on campus, facilitated by a team of campus-based Support Officers, coordinated by a Lead Support Officer.
oAssisting Campus VPs and Campus Committees to determine and deliver the full range of activities and programs on their campuses.

| Job Description: |
The Support Officer will take a lead role in the support of advocacy, campaigns and housing. In particular the Support Officer will be responsible for the day to day delivery of advocacy support to DUSA student members in relation to academic matters.
The Support Officer is also responsible for the provision of services such as housing advice and general welfare assistance, on a needs basis. The Support Officer in addition has an important role in assisting the organisation to understand and develop ways of advancing issues of concern, raised by students participating in DUSA campaigns.
This includes identifying possible campaigns, researching campaigns proposed by the campus committee and making recommendations to the Campus Committee. The Support Officer may at times provide advice, resources and training to students and representatives of the organisation on key policy issues.

| Experience & Qualifications |
| Essential: |
A qualification in Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Law, or Welfare Services (or equivalent experience) Demonstrable commitment to the concept of membership empowerment An understanding of member-based organisations An understanding of, and sound experience in advocacy, negotiation and conflict resolution An understanding of, and sound experience in activism, campaigns and recruitment.

Relevant experience with a student organisation, including issues facing students in the Higher Education Sector.

$47,899.77-$52,340.65
