Overview:

The Australian Services Union represents administrative and professional workers in local government, energy, community services, information technology, transport, retail, finance, call centres, airlines and numerous private sector businesses. There are up to two Organiser positions available with the South Australian and Northern Territory Branch of the Union. The positions are based in Adelaide.

Job Description:

The successful applicants will work as part of a team dedicated to recruiting and organising members in the above industries to improve their working lives. The objective of the position is to grow the Union through well organised, Unionised workplaces where members have a strong sense of the power of the collective in dealing with their workplace and industry issues and furthering the broader interests of Union members.

Applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to cover all aspects of the organising role and be prepared to undertake the different aspects of organising growth or allocated as required. Appropriate training and mentoring will be provided.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

  • Commitment to the Trade Union movement
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in modern Union organising theory and techniques
  • Knowledge of the Australian industrial scene
  • Ability to motivate and educate Union members and potential members
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Ability to work out of office hours
  • Ability to work to deadlines and plans
  • Drivers licence
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook)

Salary:

Starting salary will be negotiated between $47,325 and $53,291 depending on skills and experience. Private use of a motor vehicle or additional salary in lieu is also part of the package, along with access to up to 14% employer superannuation contributions.
