The Industrial Officer is accountable to the ACT Branch Council through the ACT Branch Secretary for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the Branch Industrial programme.
Research, develop and implement, in conjunction with the Secretary, regular award and agreement reviews;
Preparation and negotiation of log of claims for industrial agreements;
Preparation and presentation of cases for Australian Industrial Relations Commission hearings;
Assist members in relation to their conditions of employment and other entitlements;
Attend and take minutes of relevant committee meetings including workplace representative and member meetings, as required;
Research and prepare material for Branch newsletters, Australian Nurses Journal (ANJ), media releases, reports and other promotional material as required;
Provide regular written reports and recommendations to Branch Council and/or Branch Executive meetings;
Act as an adviser and resource person to ANF Branch Council on matters related to ANFs industrial interests and development;
Maintain current knowledge of contemporary industrial issues and legislation to enable a proactive strategic approach to industrial issues taking cognizance of professional practice issues for nurses and midwives within the health industry;
Liaise with ANF legal advisers as necessary when authorized by the ANF Secretary;
Negotiate with Government departments, authorities and employers, including the private sector on matters affecting members covered by ACT Nurses awards and agreements;
Participate in the training and development of workplace representatives;
Attend the ACT Branch biennial conference and all general meetings of the Branch;
Research and prepare material for submissions/reports for:- oAustralian Industrial Relations Commission/tribunal hearings; oConsultative Committees/Councils; oANF National and local Committees/Meetings etc; oPolicy formulation; and oAny other body as required.
Assist members with Workers Compensation matters including: - oConsultation with management and legal officers as required; and oRelevant research and preparation of material.
Actively recruit eligible nurses and midwives as members to the ANF.
Performance review and development
Participate in annual performance review with the Secretary Participate in team reviews from time to time to evaluate the Branchs overall performance outcomes.
