Overview:

The Sydney Alliance is a new and unprecedented coalition in Australia, harnessing the best practice of successful coalitions from the United Kingdom, USA, Germany and Canada to build deep relationships across religious, community and union organisations. It aims to rebuild Sydney's civil society while at the same time strengthening its member organisations.

The Sydney Alliance is seeking an experienced Organiser to work on building a new kind of coalition that changes how Sydney organisations work together. We are looking for a person who wants to experience the challenges of working across diverse organisations and making a significant difference for people living in Sydney.

The Alliance has a small organising team, and the successful candidate will work closely with senior and experienced Organisers.

Job Description:

The role of the Organiser includes:

• Working with organisations to identify their strategic needs and how these connect to the work of the Alliance

• Bringing diverse organisations together to identify common interests

• Delivering and preparing workshops, leadership development programs and other training programs to support the organising work of the Sydney Alliance

• Working with organisations to develop their activists and strengthen their internal capacity

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Essential:
• At least 2 years organising experience
• Proven ability to work with religious or community organisations
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work with different types of organisations and understand how organisations work
• Capacity for self reflection
• Self motivation and the ability to work with limited supervision
• An interest in being challenged, and in learning and growing through working on establishing this new coalition
• An interest in social justice issues
• Current drivers license or preparedness to obtain one

• Experience working with organisational leaders (pastors, rabbis, union leaders / staff, etc.)
• Adult education skills
• Additional language skills

Salary:

Salary ranges from $50 000 - $65 000 depending on experience. A job share position will be considered.

Information:

The Organiser will report to a lead Organiser and meet at least weekly.

Final candidates will be expected to participate in multiple interviews and a 2 day orientation / training session on 12 and 13 March 2008. Initial employment will include a 90 day probation period.
