Overview:

The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) is one of Australias largest and most innovative trade unions.

The CPSU is looking for a Research Officer with an analytical mind and strong communication skills to be based in our Sydney Office.

Working as part of a national team, the primary function of this role is to provide qualitative and quantitative research advice and information to officials, officers, organisers, delegates and members of the CPSU. This will include researching, monitoring and reporting industrial law developments; researching and reporting on issues affecting workers covered by the Union; preparing submissions for internal and external inquiries; conducting corporate and industry research and preparing reports for officials and organisers as required.

A degree in industrial relations/economics or other relevant tertiary qualification is essential.

Job Description:

The primary function of this role is to provide qualitative and quantitative research advice and information to officials, officers, organisers, delegates and members of the CPSU. This position reports to the Director of Policy and Research.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

1.Demonstrated commitment to trade unionism and social justice.
2.The ability to research and draft reports and submissions and/or contribute to the writing of reports and submissions.
3.The ability to understand and interpret data including ABS data.
4.The ability to understand and interpret economic reports such as Budget papers.
5.The ability to undertake qualitative research.
6.The ability to actively engage members in the research process.
7.A proficiency in MS Windows, MS Office and the ability to be trained in the use of other computer applications.
8.The ability to work to deadlines and under pressure, good written and communication skills, good organisational skills.
9.The ability to work both in a team and independently, be flexible and exercise initiative.

Training/qualifications:

1.A degree in industrial relations/economics or other relevant tertiary qualification.

Desired:

XPrior work experience in a research area or the union movement would be desirable.
XAbility to analyse data in SPSS or a similar program.
XCurrent drivers license.

Salary:

$56,654; $59,407; $62,152 or $64,898 + 13% superannuation (Individual fixed pay point - depending on skills & qualifications)
